Trix

4 players

Trix is played by 4 players, each on their own. It has five contracts: four you avoid (tricks, queens, diamonds, and the king of hearts) and one positive contract, the trix, where you race to shed your cards first. A game of counting and nerve.

How to play

Players: 4, each on their own, no teams.
Deck: 52 cards, 13 each, no trump.
Structure: Four kingdoms. As kingdom owner, each player plays all five contracts once, so a full game is 20 hands.
Contracts: Four you avoid: tricks, queens, diamonds, and the king of hearts. Plus one positive contract, trix: the first to shed all cards scores 200, then 150, 100, and 50.
Play: The four negative contracts are trick-taking. Trix is the only non-trick contract, laying cards on the table.
Winning: Total each player's points across the 20 hands. Highest total wins.
